Deputy PM Meets UNDP Administrator

KABUL (BNA) Mawlavi Abdul Salam Hanafi, Deputy Prime Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan met Achim Steiner administrator of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) while the UNAMA Special Representative for Afghanistan, Deborah Lyons was present in Kabul, Today.

In the meeting both sides discussed on continuation of humanitarian aid, start of development assistance, prevention of Afghan migration and drug addicts.
Achim Steiner head of UNDP said: “Afghanistan needed more humanitarian assistance in this dire time and assured his administration of continued co-operation”.
Mawlavi Abdul Salam Hanafi while emphasizing the transparency of the distribution of humanitarian aid said, the international agencies, in cooperation with sectoral ministries, should identify the beneficiaries and increase their coordination in this sector.
He called for interaction and cooperation to be important for progress, and said that the cooperation of the international community and providing alternatives for farmers is important for agriculturist, using and prevention of drug trafficking.
Administrator of United Nations Development Program (UNDP) said that in addition to providing alternatives for farmers, drug prevention is also useful for people in preventing narcotics, and interaction with the world is essential because they need to be given a clear message. He added, we are committed to coordination and cooperation in all areas.
Deborah Lyons, the UN special envoy for Afghanistan, said she had recently met with representatives of 40 donor countries in Qatar and encouraged them to help Afghans.
At the end of the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister said solving the existing problems and challenges will pave the way for further progress, through joint cooperation.
