Govt. Wants Early Transition of Bagram Prison: Faizi

Tuesday November 20, 2012
Kabul (BNA) President Spokesman Aimal Faizai has said that the government is demanding the early transition of Bagram prison from US military to the Afghans lead.
Addressing a press conference here yesterday, he noted that 57 detainees who have been absolved by the court should be set free in its earliest.
He also stated that holding the detainees who received pardon from the judiciary is a breach of the agreement signed between US and Afghanistan.
Answering a question with regard to the security pact between US and Afghanistan, Faizi noted that talks on the subject are going on and the issue of Bagram prison has no impact.
However, he went on to say that Afghanistan has its own condition in the negotiations which ensure the national interests and sovereignty.
Replying another question he said that Pakistan had set free some Taliban detainees in the wake of High Peace Council delegation visit to Islamabad.
He also said that Pakistan had called on the armed opposition groups to server ties with al-Qaida network, saying this is a positive step towards peace efforts in Afghanistan.
