Traditions of Bamyan People On Advent of Eid

Kabul (BNA) The world Muslims celebrate every year different occasions like Nowruz festival, Eid-ul- Fitr and Eid-ul-Adah in different ways.
In our country, the Eid days are celebrated with special glory and diverse traditions. People particularly in provinces prepare new clothes, slaughter sheep, ox and goat for Qurbani purposes. Those who are engage take Eidi to their fiancées homes. The people of Bamyan have also their own traditions.
The head of Bamyan provincial Department of Information and Culture, Kabir Dadras said, “Usually people clean home, wash floors and clothes.
This is done by young girls few days prior to Eid. People baked cookies in ovens.
The youth specially try to buy new clothes according to new mode. Elders gather and make plan for the three days of Eid, what to do, where to go. Tribal elders, Ulema, clergymen go to those houses who lost their beloved and commemorate them.”
Dadras added, “Youth and adults organize cultural programs in Eid days including egg fighting, wresting, running etc. Bamyan ladies prepare special delicious foods for their guests.
Their ingredients including meat, yoghourt, fat oil, cream, butter, milk, rice etc…and serve to guests.”
Talking on taking of Eidi gifts in Bamyan, Dadras said, “Fortunately taking of Eidi gift has been common since long past in Bamyan which includes new clothes for bride which was accompanied with local music” Dadras said, adding that today this tradition has changed among families and they are influenced with traditions of neighboring countries.”
He added, “Before several clothes were taken to the bride home which was very expansive. But today this has changed and only one set of cloth with jewelries are supplied.”
“Now instead of food, dried and fresh fruits, cake, cookies are purchased from bazaar and put on table cloth and offered to guests” Dadras added.
