ARCS With 81 Years Background of Humanitarian Services

Kabul (BNA) The special week of ARCS is celebrated every year in our country.
This year this week will be celebrated in the name of seven basic principles, throughout the country. At present what are the basic ARCS activities? With what preparations and under which slogan the ARCS special week will be celebrated this year? What is the goal of this week? To which individuals their relief supplies take place? What are their demands from people? President of ARCS planning branch Alhaj Mohammad Tayeb Yosufzai said, “The Afghan Red Crescent Society is trying to celebrate this week with special programs. The slogan of this year will be “Seven Days in seven principles of Humanitarian assistance”. He added that the ARCS carry activities as a member of International movement of Red Cross and Red Crescent and the main principles include: impartiality, neutrality, unity, world wideness and voluntariness. He went on to say, the ARCS as on old foundation with over 81 years background has been involved in humanitarian activities and we try to alleviate human pains, hardships and problems with implementation of different programs. We are assistants of the Afghan government in the direction of humanitarian services which include health, disasters management, improvement and development of humanitarian assistance and convergence. In Marastoon with pave the way for these women who don’t afford to provide livelihood for their children.
Touching the Red Crescent activities, he said, “Some of these activities are carried out in close cooperation and coordination of the Afghan government. For example in the sector of health, we attend those areas that government has not access and supply health services. We are also involved in counter-disasters response activities. For example bodies exchange, except ARCS no other body can carries it. We offer services to those people who have mental abnormalities through Marastoon, children affected with heart hole, tracing of missing people, exchange of prisoners etc. He went on to say, four years ago we undertook sending of children with heart hole and ever since over 3000 affected children have been medicated although, it is an expensive project but despite of that we have registered over 8000 affected children. We have held contracts with two local hospitals inside Afghanistan, one hospital in Pakistan and two-three hospitals in India. Unfortunately the capacities of these hospitals are very limited and we sent patients according to their demand.
Taking on the relief supply operations and activities-Yousufzai said, “ARCS activities are concentrated in natural and unnatural disasters, wars and conflict affected areas. At present our focus is on the north-eastern province of Takhar, Badakhshan, Mazar-i-Sharif, IDPs. Whatever we receive from domestic or foreign sources allocated them to IDPs. Talking on relief supply to Kunduz, he said, “We have sent relief materials to Kunduz IDPs in Kunduz and other adjacent provinces that include food and non-food materials through our provincial branches that include 300 people in Baghlan, 300 people in Takhar and Badakhshan as well as in other provinces. Totally we have supported over 1500 IDPs. The ARCS special week is an opportunity and a ray of hope for those in urgent need. Those who afford can take part in ARCS activities.
