Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani met Rex W. Tillerson, US secretary of state here yesterday afternoon at the presidential palace, a statement said.
According to presidential press office, besides welcoming the US secretary of state, President Ghani thanked US support and declaring of the new US strategy by president Trump on Afghanistan and the South Asia.
The two sides discussed economic, regional, investments, peace process and the fight against terrorism.
President Ghani said Afghan people welcomes the new US strategy, aiming to bring about peace and stability in Afghanistan, region and the world. He also said that Afghanistan was committed to bring necessary reforms in different sectors.
The Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah who was also present in the meeting said the regional countries should cooperate in bringing about economic relief and peace in the region.
Pointing to Dr. Abdullah’s remarks, the US secretary of State said US would spare no effort in implementation of its strategy on Afghanistan. He meanwhile said US was asking the Afghan neighbors to take sincere steps in bring peace and stability in Afghanistan and the region.
US Tillerson went on saying that his country would remain Afghanistan’s partner in implementation of the uplift and regional projects, including mining and economic development.
