National Disaster Committee Evaluate Flood Losses

Kabul (BNSA) Chaired by minister of rehabilitation and rural development the national disaster committee assessed the looses from the flood and the measures taken for addressing the affected families in recent flooding in provinces. 
The head of the national disaster preparedness department informed the session about the activities taken in this respect and the aid provided to the affected in Sar-i-Pul, Badakhshan, Samangan, Balkh, Kunduz, Ghour and Baghlan provinces in terms of food and non food items, blankets and medical help. 
He added that totally a round 3,000 families have been affected of the floods in the month of Saratan and 60 people have lost their lives and over 23 electricity producing dams were damaged and 2000 animal have been perished. 
The minister of public health, deputy ministers of energy and water, agriculture and irrigation shared their activities in terms of medical help, cleaning of head dams and water channels and food and non-food aid to the affected. 
The members of the committee emphasizing on creation of necessary coordination for addressing the losses presented their proposals and decided the following: 
1- Afs 80 million allocated for the provinces should be expended under the supervision of the governors as per the guideline in this respect and prepare the necessary documents in this respect.
2- The UN agencies have been asked so that they prepare the list of food and non-food items for the winter season especially for the vulnerable regions and present to the committee.
3- The governor of Takhar province was assigned to prepare specific proposal for settlement of the residents of 14 villages who have been displaced from their areas due to rise of water so that a decision is taken in this respect.
