International Conference On Women, Peace And Security Held

Kabul (BNA) A conference on women, peace and security was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday.
The conference initiated jointly by the Center for Strategic Studies and the Human Rights and Women’s International Affairs Departments of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
A number of state officials, members of civil society as well as a number of ambassadors and representatives of Kabul based international organizations participated at the conference.
Conference speakers addressed the current needs, opportunities and challenges on the way of promotion of women’s role in peace, security and betterment of women’s status, that comprise more than half of the population of Afghanistan.
Some of the speakers also referred to the historic and unique achievements of Afghanistan over the past decade in promoting the role of women and girls in various spheres, including politics, governance, education and training, public health and economy, all of which have been made possible under the umbrella of the Afghan Constitution.
Based on international conventions and treaties, Afghanistan has committed to take necessary measures to ensure women’s rights.
The Afghan government is now ready to implement the action plan to meet No. 1325 resolution of the United Nations Security Council on Women, Peace and Security, which addresses the impact of war on women, and women’s contribution to conflict and sustainable peace.
