Filippo Grandi: In Surge of Ukraine War, the world Must not Forget Afghanistan

KABUL (BNA) UN High Commissioner for Refugees says the Ukraine war has made it difficult to raise funds for Afghanistan, stressing that with the start of the Ukraine war, the world must not forget Afghanistan.

“The outbreak of war in Ukraine has made it difficult to raise funds for Afghanistan,” said Filippo Grandi, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), who is on a four-day visit to Kabul.

He stressed that Russia’s attack on Ukraine should not cause the world to forget Afghanistan, and warned that ignoring its humanitarian needs could be very dangerous.

Filippo Grandi also reminded that the international community must continue to interact with the Islamic Emirate; Because Afghanistan is in dire need of humanitarian assistance.

He has emphasized that humanitarian aid should flow to Afghanistan no matter how much other crises compete with it around the world.

The United Nations is seeking to bring together donor countries, UN agencies and Afghan civil society in an online conference this month to gather food, shelter and health services, especially for women. And the girls will be focused.

Aid agencies say more than half of Afghanistan’s 38 million people have been starving this winter and continue to do so.

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has requested $340 million for Afghanistan by 2022, but has so far raised only about $100 million, Grandi said.

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has also called for continued foreign assistance to Afghanistan, a country whose millions of citizens live as refugees in neighboring countries such as Iran and Pakistan.

This statement comes at a time when the people of Afghanistan are in trouble due to unfair sanctions imposed by the United States and its affiliated international institutions.

The problem is that the United States has set many conditions for the recognition of the Islamic Emirate. Unfortunately, other countries do not dare to follow the United States to recognize the new system. This is in itself a problem that can affect people’s lives. Afghanistan to be effective, while the Islamic Emirate has met all the criteria needed for a government and must be recognized.
