100th Birth Anniversary of Late Pazhwak Marked

Kabul (BNA) The 100th birth anniversary of late Abdul Rehman Pazhwak an outstanding personality of the country was marked in a gathering held in the presence of Dr. Zalmai Rassoul Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yahya Marufi and Dr. Zalmai Heywadmal advisor minister in international and cultural relations of the presidential office, Kabul Mayor, deputy ministers of some ministries, some members of the National Assembly, some political and cultural figures of the country and employees of Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Marufi by reading out the message of President Karzai with respect to the marking of 100th birth anniversary of late Pazhwak called him a pioneer, patriot, initiator and very kind personality of the country.
Minister of Foreign Affairs called late Pazhwak a person of several dimensions and shed light on the life and services of late Pazhwak.
He added that considering the capacities and extraordinary abilities of Pazhwak in different spheres of science, he had played a big role in all eras of the contemporary history of this nation.
He as a writer in reality opened the path towards freedom of speech especially the freedom of the press.
With his immense knowledge and deep recognition of politics, diplomacy and international relations he achieved a great deal in consolidating ties of the country and he was the only Afghan diplomat who attained the honor of an elected chairman of the UN General Assembly.
Late Pazhwak was born in a pious family in Baghbani village of Surkhrud district of Nangarhar, pursued his primary education in a school in the district and high school education at the Habibia Lycee of Kabul.
After appointment as a cultural attaché of Afghanistan at the Afghan embassy in London he pursued his higher education at the Scotland University. Late Pazhwak in 1337 was appointed as minister counselor and then as permanent representative of Afghanistan at the UN and for 14 years he remained at this post and due to his high political qualifications and the trust of the UN members he was elected as Chairman of the UN General Assembly in 1966 and 1967.
Late Pazhwak was also as Afghan ambassador to Germany, New Delhi and England. Ultimately in 1374 he died. The UN member countries in 1374 during the general assembly expressed their deep sympathies on the death of late Pazhwak and issued their sympathy message on his death in New York.
