Monday, February 01, 2016

Kabul (BNA) US Special Envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan in a meeting in UN headquarter said, ‘One of the main reasons caused the U.S. President Barack Obama to decide on its forces continued stay in Afghanistan was the difficult situation the Afghan security had been faced last year.’
U.S. Special Envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan, Richard Holson said, ‘We all know that 2015 was a harsh year to Afghan National Security Forces that is why we should continue our training, advice and support to them.’
Because of this, U.S. President Obama has decided to keep its 9800 forces in the upcoming summer in Afghanistan and the number would decline by 5500 next year, he further said.
The participants at Warsaw summit have also committed to their continued cooperation to Afghanistan in 2018 and 2020, he went on to say.
At the sideline of the summit, Mr. Holson had also expressed concern on Daesh widespread activities in Afghanistan.
Likewise, he said, ‘I think, it is important to say that currently a number of Taliban commanders have joined Daesh. Therefore, we have to find the Daesh militants and wipe them out wherever they appear.’
The representatives of the NATO member countries in a meeting in Brussels on Saturday discussed preparations for meeting expected to be held on 8th, 9th Feb. in Warsaw, Polish capital.
The Afghan government asked the donor countries in NATO member nations’ summit in Warsaw to be committed in assistance and cooperation of the Afghan security forces.
Lauding the Afghan security forces efforts in ensuring security in the country, particularly recent operations in Kundoz, a number of lawmakers stressed on ANSF equipping by the government and international community.
They believe that if the ANSF are equipped with sophisticated weaponries, they can be successful against the insurgents’ attacks.
The military experts believe that further attention should be paid on Afghan security forces equipping, so they can stand and defend against security threats in the country.
Expressed concern on lack of military equipment to ANSF, they military experts said, ‘The NATO member states have not paid any attention to ANSF equipping during the last fourteen years, however they should have paid heed to the ANSF capacity building besi0des having equipment’s.’
An expert on political and military affairs said, ‘Withdrawal of foreign forces is not concerning, because the ANSF can lonely defend their country.’
Meanwhile, a number of citizens said, ‘Now, the Afghan people have a national unity government and they expect their security organs to better ensure the security, and ensuring security should be at the top priorities of the government.’
This is while that despite presence of the international forces over the last fourteen years, there are still security threats existed in Afghanistan, therefore, the ANSF should be further equipped with modern military weaponries to better ensure the country’s security.
