At the Sideline of President’s Visit to Nangarhar: ‘IS defeated in Afghanistan’s east’ // Ulama, elders support President’s stance on peace process // ‘No collusion on women rights in peace negotiation’

Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, in a meeting early Tuesday morning, with the governors of Nangarhar and Kunar provinces, assessed the security situation of the country’s east, a statement from the Presidential Press Office said.
At the outset, the governors of Nangarhar and Kunar provinces shared information about the security situation and anti-Daesh operations and said that the outfit has completely defeated in the two provinces.
During the security meeting, while visiting the provinces, the country’s president heard information about the security of the country’s eastern zone and thanked the provincial authorities for better management of the situation over last one week of reduction of violence.
The president also instructed the provincial defense and security forces for doing more on ensuring security of the people and implementation of uplift projects as well as offering services for the citizens in the eastern provinces, said the statement.
In a separate meeting with the country’s president, the ulama and influential figures of Nangarhar province, expressed their support to President Ghani’s peace stance and said IS, which is known as Daesh has completely been defeated in the province and focus should be made on the implementation of the uplift projects.
The ulama and elders of the province asked the president for doing more in the area of prevention of land usurpation, with the country’s president appreciating them said: “The best gift the province gave us was the defeat of Daesh, which was fundamentally cooperated by the people, elders and ulama and I thank them very much.”
Thanking the ulama and elders’ support to the stance of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, the president said: “We want durable ceasefire and the Taliban to cut ties with Pakistan, because as long as the Taliban secure safe haven in the Pakistan’s soil, peace process would never go ahead.” The country’s president pledged to allocate up to 300 million Afghani to construct and consolidate the seashores and water dams in the province, as well as work to survey the civil airport of the province, would be soon started.
In the next year, focus would be made on the agriculture products of the province, particularly packaging of the products and that the province would be turned into one of the economic zones of Afghanistan in the next five years, the statement quoted.
On the other hand, the country’s president during a separate meeting with a number of women during his stay in the province, assured that no deal would be made on women rights in the process.
The president said what has been done for women in the province was not sufficient and added that there was a need to follow the lifestyle of Bibi Khadija and Bibi Aysha (the Prophet Mohammad’s wives) peace be upon them. The president once again assured them that no collusion would be made on women rights in the peace process.
