Kabul (BNA) On August 27, 2015 President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov paid an official visit to the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. The Turkmen leader was welcomed by the official persons at the International Airport named after Hamid Karzai. On the way to the Palace complex of the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, the Turkmen leader was greeted by the horsemen lined up along the road, as well as by the representatives of the young generation of Afghanistan in the national attires with flags of the two friendly countries. At the central square of the palace complex the official welcoming ceremony of the President of Turkmenistan took place. Then the joint motorcade of the Heads of two countries left for the Delkusha Palace. At the small hall of sessions of the Palace the official photographing ceremony on the background of the national flags of two countries, as well as the bilateral high level negotiations in the format “one on one” took place.
Within the framework of the meeting in “one on one” format the Leaders of two countries discussed the progress of works in implementation of previously reached agreements, key directions and perspectives of further development of Turkmen-Afghani cooperation that are of mutual interest of two fraternal countries and nations. Then the negotiations followed-up in the Grand Hall of sessions in the extended format with the participation of the official delegations of two countries. During negotiations the sides has stressed that maintenance of peace, stability and sustainable development in the Central Asia and at the global level are common strategic objectives of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan at the international arena. The sides also noted that the important role of intergovernmental interaction is attached to the development of such fields as trade-economic, energy, transport and humanitarian spheres. The issues of implementation of the important joint infrastructural projects such as the TAPI gas pipeline construction and railway Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan were the subjects of special interest.
Upon completion of the negotiations in extended format, the ceremony of signing the bilateral documents took place in the press conference Hall. They are as follows: Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Finance of Turkmenistan and Financial Monitoring Service of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Concerning Cooperation in the Exchange of Financial Intelligence Related to Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing, Agreement between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan of Joint Intergovernmental Turkmen-Afgan Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, Agreement between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan on Scientific and Technological Cooperation, Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan on cooperation in the field of sports, Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan on the further development of cooperation in the field of energy, Joint Statement of Turkmenistan and the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
Under the storm of applause of participants, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammad Ashraf Ghani signed the Joint Communiqué of Turkmenistan and the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. Upon completion of the signing ceremony, the leaders of two countries addressed to the representatives of mass-media. In honor of the President of Turkmenistan, the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan gave an official dinner, where the leaders of two countries exchanged their speeches. At the same day, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov had a meeting with Chairman of the Executive authorities of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Abdullah Abdullah at the “Sepidar” Palace.
