Kandahar (BNA) Twelve policemen and 21 Taliban insurgents have been killed during separate incidents of violence in southern Kandahar province, local officials said Sunday.
Police spokesman Zia Durrani said that dozens of militants attacked security check-posts on the outskirts of Nesh district Centre on Saturday night at 11:00pm.
The heavy clashes lasted for some hours and the militants were pushed back after additional forces reached the site, adding 15 militants and four police were killed and 20 Taliban and six security personnel were wounded during the gun battle.
But a reliable security source put the police death toll at 12, with another half a dozen policemen sustaining bullet wounds.
