US Stresses Holding of Fair & Transparent Elections

Kabul (BNA) Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah in a meeting with US Acting Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Ms. Alice Wells in Washington discussed relations between the two countries, his office said in a statement the other day.
At the outset, Ms. Wells welcomed CE Abdullah to the U.S. and assured her country’s continued cooperation with Afghanistan in different fields, according to the statement.
She said, “We support the national unity government which is running by you and President Ghani,” the statement further said.
“We oppose any crisis in Afghanistan which disturbs our joint efforts on ensuring security and fighting terrorism,” she added. She also asked the CE on holding parliamentary, district councils and presidential elections and expressed her country’s support on holding a fair and transparent election in Afghanistan, the statement went on to say. Thanking Ms. Wells and other US officials’ warm welcome, CE Abdullah appreciated the US new strategy on Afghanistan, the statement continued. Pointing at bringing recent reforms in Independent Elections Commissions (IEC) and establishing an effective leadership in the entity, he reiterated that the government is committed to hold elections in 2018 and appreciated the US support from the process.
