Foreign Affairs Deputy Minister Meets NATO General Secretary

Saturday, June 28, 2014 Kabul (BNA) Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Irshad Ahmadi met on Wednesday with NATO General Secretary Anders Fogh Rasmussen in sideline of NATO Foreign Ministerial Summit in Brussels. In the meeting, both sides discussed related to current issues of Afghanistan. Irshad Ahmadi briefed related to successfully holding presidential run-off election and widely participation of the people of Afghanistan, declaration of the election results and transfer of political power according to set schedule. In the meeting, NATO General Secretary stressed on signing BSA and SOFA prior to holding NATO Summit to be held in September. Related to NATO mission in Afghanistan beyond 2014, Mr. Rasmussen said NATO supporting plan which would start from 1st January, 2015 for ANSF was ready. NATO General Secretary expressed hope the election process would be finalized according to the election timetable, saying political power to be transferred on 2nd August and the new elected president should participate in NATO Summit to be held in Britain. In the meeting, Irshad Ahmadi considered successfully holding presidential run-off election held with widely participation of Afghanistan people despite security challenges as key achievement for the people of Afghanistan.
