Freezing of Afghanistan’s Assets by US Exacerbates Economic Crisis: MoLSA

KABUL (BNA) In response to the (SIGAR) report, US Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction, on increasing poverty and unemployment in Afghanistan the ministry of Labor and Social Affairs rejected the allegation said the freezing of Afghanistan Central Bank’s assets in foreign banks exacerbated the economic crisis and amplified poverty.

Despite the US freeze of the central bank assets, the Islamic Emirate has launched major projects to reduce the effects of economic pressures as well as to decrease poverty and unemployment, said the Ministry in a press release on Tuesday.

The Ministry has learned inauguration of some major projects as the biggest accomplishment of the Afghanistan Islamic Emirate, such as the Qoshtipe canal, the extraction contract of some mines, taking practical steps for the implementation of the TAPI project, maintaining the security of traders and investors, and supporting domestic and foreign investments in Afghanistan.

Maintaining the security and economic approach of the Islamic Emirate, the people of Afghanistan will witness a solution to economic challenges, self-sufficiency, and boosting the country’s economy in the near future, added the ministry.

Lately, the US Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction office said in its latest report that poverty and unemployment in Afghanistan will increase in 2022.

According to SIGAR, between 700,000 and 900,000 Afghans have lost their jobs since the fall of the former government.
