President Ghani: Ministries Should Provide Services Not Just Studies

Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani made a renewed review of the first 100-day-action plan of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT) Thursday the presidential press office stated BNA. In the meeting that took place in the Presidential Palace, the Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Mr. Abdul Razaq Wahidi, presented his first 100-day action plan for a more thorough reviewed by the President according to the presidential office.
The plan includes a policy for expansion of optical fiber network, capacity building in the Ministry, finalization of the strategy for governance, provision of optical for a number of universities, holding information technology exhibitions and fairs for encouragement of private sector and drafting a policy for development of information technology. The Minister stated that by the end of the first100-day action plan, at least ten ministries will in turn reduce the need for physical commuting to palace by the ministers and thus reducing traffic congestions in the city. President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani considered the items in the 100-day-action plan of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology important and reiterated that the Ministry should deliver services and not just assessments and studies all with the aim of increasing public confidence in the government. President Ghani reiterated that Ministry should improve the telephone services and bring serous changes to the management of Internet Services. He said that the cost of VoIP should be reduced, the optical fiber services should be expanded and advancement of information technology should translate into job creation. The President stressed on connecting schools and universities via optical fiber networks and creating free Wi-Fi hotspots on campuses to provide free Internet access to students and faculty. The President called on the MCIT to come up with a plan in coordination with the security institutions of the country on how to turn telephone.
