Saturday December 20, 2014
Kabul (BNA) The NATO, US combat mission is expected to be officially concluded in Afghanistan in two weeks and their new mission of Resolute Mission for Train, Advise and Assist, will be started. In his recent speech, the US present Barack Obama said that concluding of the US, NATO military mission in Afghanistan doesn’t mean and of security threats against the USA.
Large numbers of US troops are expected to be withdrawn from Afghanistan because at the end of current month (Dec. 2014) our combat mission will be ended in this country. President Obama said, following the end of combat mission, the US will continue her cooperation for ensuring peace, stability with Afghanistan. We will continue our cooperation with Afghanistan until peace and stability is restored in this country and Afghanistan is not anymore a threat to the US.
Meanwhile, as the House called withdrawal of US, NATO forces according to planned timetable, emphasize that the new NATO, US mission in Afghanistan must be concentrated on funding and equipping of security forces to capable them to undertake security responsibility of their country. Because in the last thirteen years the ANSF have not been improved as it was expected and they still lack access to modern military equipment. Prior to this, the presidential office had called presence of NATO, American troops in Afghanistan based on BSA and had added that within the framework of this agreement, if there is a threat to ANSF or they need training, the Afghan government can rely on support of international allies. A number of military, political experts and ordinary citizens in their conversation, while called NATO presence here according to the request of Afghan people, emphasize that despite of thirteen years presence of NATO in Afghanistan and war on terror, still passing each day, terrorism victimize our innocent people.
They said, if their new mission of train, advise, assist be in the some way in Afghanistan, it would not treat any disease. Mohammad Iqbal political, military expert said, US and NATO should further concentrate in their new mission on training and equipping of ANSF because currently our country is facing serious threats from regional terror networks. The Afghan security forces, who will organize combat missions alone, should be more improved to be capable to defend their country against insurgents’ attacks. He added, as in his recent speech, president Obama touching the withdrawal of NATO troops from Afghanistan said that end of combat mission in Afghanistan doesn’t mean end of security threats. Although in the last thirteen years, the global community failed to eliminate terrorism, how the ANSF with their restricted resources, would manage to encounter their threats post 2014. Therefor their further training and equipment requires urgent attention.
Ali Rahmani another political expert believes that still the terror groups are threatening the region. Therefore the US forces during their new mission should focus on terrorists funding and training centers beyond Durand Line because their existence is not only a threat to Afghanistan but to whole region and the world. Freshta a university student said, the new NATO mission is a need in Afghanistan because the Afghan people need their long term support and cooperation due to potential threats of terrorists after thirteen years combat mission and in this period the fragile security of Afghanistan has not basically changed. While the thirteen years NATO combat mission cost over several hundred billion dollar and over 4500 NATO, US troops were killed.
