MEC Officials Calls on VP Danesh

Kabul (BNA) One of the members and Head of Secretary for the Independent Joint Anti-Corruption Monitoring and Evaluation Committee (MEC) met with the country’s Second Vice President, Mohammad Sarwar Danesh, his office said the other day.
At the outset, the MEC commissioner shared report about the works the committee has done on counter-corruption issues and the investigation made in the government institutions and the recommendations issued by the institution to the agencies subject to investigation, said the statement from the VP office.
To monitor and investigate the developments in counter- corruption campaign, the MEC was established after the London and Kabul conferences in 2011, according to the statement.
According to the statement, the committee has so far provided and released more than 100 research report and has issued up to 1247 recommendations for improvement in the process of services and how to fight corruption.
Up to 463 recommendations completely and some 300 others have been partially implemented by the institution, said the statement. But according to the statement, the government agencies have failed to apply up to 126 recommendations issued by the entity. Thanking the MEC officials for their hard work in fighting corruption, VP Danesh termed their achievements as a big and successful experience, which could be used by the government agencies in fighting corruption, according to the statement.
The vice-president insisted establishment of an independent counter-corruption institution and said creation of such a commission had been highlighted in the new counter-corruption law, the statement quoted.
He said in case such administration was established there was a need for merging MEC into the Independent counter-corruption commission.
