Kabul (BNA) Lower House of parliament has approved 100% increase of tax on cigarette import.
In a session held yesterday under the chairmanship of speaker of the house Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi, draft for modification of 20th article of tobacco control law was delivered by health, sport, youth and labor commission.
In the draft, increase of tax on cigarette imports has been suggested and a number of the house’s commissions were asking for increase of 50%, while other commissions were also asking for increase of 100% of tax on the cigarette imports.
As a result of voting, modification of the 100% increase of tax on cigarette imports in the law on tobacco control was unanimously approved by the session.
In other part of the session, lawmakers asked the government to specify the exact date for holding parliamentary elections in the country.
Members of the house emphasized that they would continue their work based on the country’s constitution until holding the elections and declaring results of the elections, saying that no organ including the country’s president had the authority to decide beyond the constitution.
