Wednesday, October 28, 2015

Kabul (BNA) The recent earthquake has caused heavy casualties and destruction in the country.
Therefore, public mobilization for providing aid for the affected people of this natural disaster is an urgent need.
BNA analyst analyzing the situation in the country writes the Afghan people recently experienced and felt an earthquake with very high magnitude, which was unprecedented in decades in the country. The earthquake caused heavy casualties and financial losses. After the occurrence of this deadly natural incident, President Ashraf Ghani assigned a committee to assess the human and financial losses caused this fatal incident.
Dr. Abdullah the executive chief held the emergency session of state run high counter natural incidents commission. The participant of session first assigned the ministry of public health to send medical teams to the earthquake affected areas. In same time  assigned the governors of the earthquake-hit provinces to establish emergency committees to precisely asses the losses caused by the earthquake in their respective province and inform the counter disaster high commission in that regard and provide foodstuff and other necessary materials for the affected people.
This indicates that the state relevant organs have already started to provide urgent and necessary aids to the affected people and settle their problems as soon as possible.
It should be note that providing aids for affected people is not only the responsibility an organ or charity organization even the government but it should be face as a national problem and encountering it all eligible people should be organize.  Every citizen, social organizations, and institutes considering their mission should provide aids such as foodstuff, clothes cash, blood donation, and participating in volunteer works for rescuing wounded people of the incident. The aids should be organize and manage in a way to reach the true affected people because, in past, the process of delivering aids was combined with certain criticism. We hope it should not repeat once again in this critical situation.
On the other hand, there is still a gap in management of the activities for settling the problems because, the true figure of the casualties and the amount of financial losses are not yet clear, which is of great importance for providing aids. According to the world most credible seismological institutes, Afghanistan is located in seismic area, and is the 12th vulnerable country in the world. Therefore considering the situation the relevant organizations should adopt proper measures to overcome the problem timely and be ready for facing such grave natural disasters. If we did so earlier, the lives of several students in Takhar province were safe.
The last natural disaster clearly should us that we should do our best in dealing with natural disasters in order reduce the casualties and financial losses. For achieving this humane goal, a precise planning needed to meet our commitments regarding to the safety of our citizens.     Abdul Khalil Minawi
