Presidential Decree On Pardoning & Reducing Prison Terms of Inmates

Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani in a presidential decree released on the occasion of 97th Independence Day, has pardoned and reduced the sentence term of some inmates including men, women, juveniles and military personnel who are detained in their barracks.  According to the decree any woman inmate age 49 and sentenced to five years prison and man aged 59 and sentenced to five years jail are pardoned.  However, the decree does not includes terrorists and criminals including armed robbers, murderers and administrative corrupts and kidnappers.
According to the presidential decree a commission composed of officials from the attorney general office, national directorate for security, prison directorate, center for children reformation, defense ministry, ministry for women affairs and independent human rights commission of Afghanistan to identify those detainees who are covered by the presidential decree and report back to the office of president. The presidential decree is effective from 28th of Assad 1395 (18th of August 2016.)
