Saturday May 5, 2018

Kabul (BNA) Chief Executive (CE) Dr. Abdullah Abdullah on Thursday strongly opposed the launch of long-delayed electronic National Identity Cards (E-ID).
Addressing a press conference in Kabul after the officially launch of E-ID card by President Ghani, CE Abdullah said the process was not legitimate and he would not be a part of the process.
He emphasized the national process need national-level consultation and the E-ID Card should not divide the nation, adding no one was basically opposing the issuance of the E-ID cards.
“I declare that all the national process that are not discussed in national level and with people of Afghanistan are not legitimate,” Dr. Abdullah added. “The reason I am not participating in the distribution of ID cards, I know this process has not received the needed legitimacy and support of Afghans. One-way decisions can lead the country to crisis,” he continued.
“We should also prioritize our work. Our people need better security and services from the government, not the issues that can make challenge to our efforts for peace and stability in the country,” he remarked.
Concluding his remarks, Dr. Abdullah congratulated World Press Freedom Day, saying the freedom of expression was hardly achieved and would be preserved.
