Kabul (BNA) A two-day research seminar on Helmand was held yesterday in Helmand’s provincial capital Lashkargah with the participation of dozens of researchers, poets and writers.
BNA reported, addressing the seminar, the deputy with the ministry for information and culture Ghulam Nabi Farahi highlighted the old history and civilization in Helmand, saying the ministry despite shortage of budget would do its best to revive and rehabilitate the historic monuments in Helmand province.
Speaking at the seminar the Helmand governor Mohammad Naeem said that utilizing the natural resources including water can play significant role in removing the people’s challenges and building the country’s economy.
Some of the scholars, experts and university lecturers in the speeches urged the government to annul the agreement with Iran which has given the one sided right to Tehran to use Helmand river water and instead construct water dams to pave the way for irrigating thousands of hectares of land and producing energy there. The speakers also called upon the ministry for information and culture to rehabilitate the historical monuments in Helmand besides urging the government to rebuild the factories existing there.
