We will Work Together to Achieve Lasting Peace: President tells Governors

Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani during videoconference call with a number of governors briefed them about the recent developments in peace process, saying that “our position is the constitution, republican, national sovereignty and dignity of the Afghan people.”
"Afghanistan's foreign policy is clear, Afghanistan has neither permanent friends nor permanent enemies, but only permanent interests," he told the governors.
The president reiterated that today Afghanistan is not a country of the past five years, the issue of peace is a national one, and we are working together to achieve lasting peace.
Pointing to the recent changes that have taken place in the region, the president said will not allow anyone to put the country in strategic depth. The President stated that Afghanistan was an independent country and that the country’s relations with the world were very important and that all the agreements with the international community, especially the United States of America and NATO would remain in place.
The president added: “With the withdrawal of tens of thousands of international troops in year 2014, it was expected that the Afghan security forces would not have the capacity and capability to safeguard the country, but in practice they proved that not only have the capability, but they also conduct 95 percent of the operations against terrorists.”
President Ghani reiterated that any agreement signed with the Taliban would be conditional and that there were conditions in each and every step, adding that conditions would change if the Taliban did not give up the war.
The first vice president-elect, Amrullah Saleh, also spoke related to the event, saying that electoral period has been completed and the State-building team was declared as the winner. He also said that the new government would work for durable peace in the country.
The VP went on saying that provincial governors, in particular governors of Parwan, Bamyan, Kapisa, Takhar, Badakhshan, Baghlan, Kabul, Herat, Daikuni and Faryab worked hard to foil enemies’ vicious goals and pave the way for mass participation of people in democratic processes.
