Interior Minister Haqqani Meets Uzbek Top Official in Kabul

KABUL (BNA) The Interior Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, Khalifa Sirajuddin Haqqani, met with Mr. Abdul Aziz Kamilov, Uzbekistan’s national security Advisor and Special Representative of the President for Foreign Policy, on Sunday.

According to the Ministry of Interior statement, the Minister of Interior during a meeting praised Mr. Kamilov for the positive role he had heretofore played in Afghanistan as Foreign Minister. Minister Haqqani complimented him on his new position and wished him more success.

During the meeting, security in Afghanistan was discussed and both sides stressed the need for security to take full advantage of the new economic opportunities.

Mr. Kamilov called on the Interior Minister to pay serious vigilance to security for the implementation of the Termez-Mazar-e-Sharif-Kabul-Peshawar railway project.

He said that this railway project could play an important role in the economic prosperity of the region and Afghanistan.

Minister of Interior Haqqani hailed the friendly and fraternal ties between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan and ascertained that the security forces would pay attention to all national projects, mainly those carried out by Uzbekistan, such as railways and power lines.

Minister Haqqani added that after the victory, the Islamic Emirate has been able to maintain security, and security has special importance on the border with neighboring countries.

In the end, both sides pledged to work for tighter ties between the two countries so that the two nations could make better use of economic opportunities.
