“Good, Affectionate Behavior Of Doctors, Nurses Towards Patients Is Their Right”: President Karzai

Saturday, November 03, 2012
Kabul (BNA) President Hamid Karzai in his 15-day radio address called the rights of patients as socially important and asked doctors and nurses to behave in good manners with the patients.
The president once again asked the doctors, nurses and all health workers so that during the diagnoses and treatment of patients they should respect their rights.
He added that I heard the health workers are not observing good manners in approaching the patients and with their relatives at the hospital and health centers so I ask the doctors and health personnel to improve their approaches with the patients and their relatives.
He stressed that the patient should know the doctors and nurse and the doctor and nurses should know the name of the patient because the patients retain the right to be treated with confidence and the patients should be informed on the method of treatment and no carelessness is allowed in this respect.  The patient has the right to consult another doctor about his disease and in case of need he can replace the doctor.
He also called on the patients and their relatives to inform the doctors about the usage of the prescribed medicine and their treatment strictly observe the rules and regulations within the health centers and he asked the families not to use medicine without the advice of the physicians.
It should be noted that president Karzai also touched on the issues in his previous radio address as well.
