President Ghani Appoints New Envoy for Pakistan

Wednesday, July 8, 2020
Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has named veteran diplomat Mohammad Umer Daudzai as his special representative for Pakistan.
Born on October 12, 1957 in the Qarabagh district of Kabul, Daudzai has served as Afghanistan’s ambassador to Pakistan and Iran.
In August 2013, he was appointed as minister of interior — a position he left in December 2014.
He is Afghanistan’s first special representative for Pakistan. Daudzai’s main responsibility would be forging coordination with Pakistan on the peace process and improving relations between the neighbors.
Some weeks back, Pakistan appointed Mohammad Sadiq Khan as Prime Minister Imran Khan’s special representative for Afghanistan.
Daudzai also served as chief of staff to former president Hamid Karzai — a position he held until 2005 when he was named ambassador to Iran.
