Kabul (BNA) The Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers from 3rd Toli, 4th Brigade, 203rd Corps have assumed complete control of district security and the protection of the local villagers in Chak district, Maidan Wardak province, April 14.
For the past six months, ANA members participated in numerous Commando and Afghan National Army Special Forces-led counterinsurgency operations.
Those operations effectively demonstrated their ability to support the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan’s initiatives to protect the people of Afghanistan.
“I believe that our Afghan forces can and will maintain security in this district, especially if their forces are appropriately increased,” said Provincial Council Member Haji Sher Shah Bazoon.
“It is going to require the cooperation of the ANA, the police, and every other Afghan security force to ensure a successful transition in our security.”
Last week, the 203rd Corps sent more ANA soldiers, weapons, and equipment to augment the ANA forces currently securing the Chak district Center.
Upon arrival, the ANA met with U.S. Special Forces to discuss the transition and began assuming control of the critical terrain checkpoints throughout the district.
Wardak Provincial Chief of Police, Brig. Gen. Zazai believes the ANA is capable of providing long term security support to the district with the continued support of the local villagers and the Afghan national government.
“The security of Chak District is important for the overall maintenance of security in Wardak Province,” said Zazai. “The departure of U.S. Special Forces is going to bring about many changes to the security situation in Chak District.
I believe that we will be successful during this change, providing enough of us come together to work for the good of the citizens of Chak District and the entire province.”
Although the transfer occurred yesterday, enemy insurgents started resisting the transition 48 hours ago, but the Afghan National Army prevented enemy harassment from influencing the retrograde.
The ANA supports the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan by conducting counterinsurgency operations that enable conditions for improved security, governance, and development.
“Long-term success is going to require the cooperation of the people and their cooperation will depend highly on the commitment of the local leadership,” said Wardak Provincial Governor Abdul Majid Khan Khogyani. “We are going to do our best to recruit and increase support for the ALP and make this a reality in Nerkh and Chak districts.”
