23 Militants Killed In Faryab Offensive

Kabul (BNA) At least hundreds of armed militants from western Ghor and northern Sar-i-Pul provinces stormed security forces in northwestern Faryab province, and the ensuing firefight left dozens of militants dead and wounded, an official said on Friday.
Abdul Razzaq, the Grezwal district chief, said a commander of uprising group along with two armed personnel was killed and Taliban took control of Shash Qara area, he added. Naqibullah Tofan, a commander of an uprising group, said that rebels had torched six houses of local residents.
Maj. Mohammad Raza, spokesman of 209 Shahin Military Corps, said that armed militants attacked several check posts and the battle continued for several hours in Qisar district.
Around 12 armed fighters including Uzbek had been killed and scores other wounded in the gun battle, he said, adding that two policemen were also among the dead.
Taliban militants have not yet commented on the incidents.
