Russian President Greets Afghans on 101st Independence Anniversary

Kabul (BNA) Russian President Vladimir Putin has convened his greetings to President Mohamad Ashraf Ghani on the account of 101st anniversary of Afghanistan’s independence.
President Ghani met with Russian Ambassador Dmitriy Zhirnov who delivered Putin’s message on the occasion of 101st independence anniversary of Afghanistan, a statement from the presidential press office said.
“I’m confident that the constructive cooperation between the two countries in virtuous fields will be significantly enhanced,” the Russian president was quoted as saying by the ambassador.
Putin wrote in his message that fighting terrorism and narcotics strengthen the people of both countries and step up regional security and stability.
President Ghani highlighted the importance of trade and transit cooperation between Afghanistan and Central Asia, emphasizing Afghanistan’s exports to Russian markets, especially fruit exports and calling on Moscow to invest in Afghanistan railways.
Regional security was also discussed during the meeting, with President Ghani saying the fight of the Afghan government and people against Islamic State (IS) rebels and terrorism was an exceptional combat and the Afghans had rendered sacrifices for security of the region and the world.
