Beijing to Enhance Ties With Kabul, Envoy

Kabul (BNA) China special representative for Afghanistan in his meeting with President Hamid Karzai has said that Beijing is eager to bolster bilateral ties with Kabul in economic and other areas, a statement from the Presidential Palace said.
Sun Yuxi called on Karzai at his office on Wednesday evening, said the statement.
The visiting dignitary delivered Chinese president’s message to Karzai, saying that Afghanistan was an important neighbor of his country.
Quoting Yuxi, the statement said Beijing was interested to expand bilateral relations and that China wanted a stable and prosperous Afghanistan with a secure economy.
The China special representative said his country was supporting the Afghan-led peace process.
For his part, President Hamid Karzai appreciated Beijing’s move to appoint special envoy to Kabul.
Describing China as Afghanistan’s friendly neighbor, the outgoing president welcomed Beijing investment and cooperation to further expand ties between the two countries.
China could play a significant role to promote the nascent peace process because Beijing has close ties with Pakistan, the president added.
Karzai said that cooperation of the US and Pakistan was imperative for taking forward the peace process. Pakistan could play an effective role to ensure peace in the country, he reiterated. The statement said both the dignitaries exchanged views over China’s investment in Afghanistan and ongoing preparations for the conference of Heart of Asia countries in China, which would be attended by the new Afghan president.
