President Ghani Meets Resident Representative of UNDP to Afghanistan

Kabul (BNA) Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan met with Abdullah Al Dardari, Resident Representative of United Nation’s Development Program to Afghanistan yesterday.
According to BNA report, first, President Ghani introduced economic plans and prospective of Afghan government and priorities have been set to support Afghanistan’s national infrastructures development.  President said: We want UNPD to support major national programs of Afghan government that aims development of Afghanistan and elimination of poverty; such programs can lead Afghanistan to sustainable peace and economic development.  President Ghani added: I propose that all United Nation’s entities work and operate unitedly, In order that Afghanistan and International community reach their goals cohesively. According to President, important priorities of Afghan government are economic development, welfare, sustainable and exclusive peace, that only major and nationwide programs can lead us to these goals.
He mentioned about food distribution program “Dastarkhan-e-Millie” and “Security Compact” that are being implemented with people’s demand and participation. President stressed on making wealth production mode systematically in order to reach economic development and he added: for now the priority is to move from war economy, to peace economy and elimination of poverty, which will pave the way for economic development. President Ashraf Ghani proposed UNDP to jointly work with Afghanistan in environment protection section. He also introduced the frame work of plans for development of five strategic cities that aims to connect cities and districts in economic exchanges. President said that five years ago, Afghan imports were 21 times more than exports, while today, the level of imports have reached only 7 times than exports, and our main focus is on balance of exports and imports. In this meeting Abdullah Al Dardari, Resident Representative of UNDPS announced support from economic plans and programs of President Ghani, and assured that UNDP will continue their cooperation in regard to economic growth and elimination of poverty in Afghanistan.
