Sunday October 12, 2014
Kabul (BNA) Election of president Ahmadzai as new leader of the country has brought up a lot of hopes and optimisms among the people of Afghanistan.
Therefore, the nation closely monitors the decisions of the president recently undertaken by him with regard to the issue of Kabul Bank corruption case and implementation of reforms in the legal and judicial institutions of the country. In recent years, there was a great sense of disappointment among the people of Afghanistan over fragile security situations, war on corruption and the issue of good governance, but now people’s hopes have been revitalized that essential reforms would be undertaken by the president in all spheres. Last week, the president visited Kabul Pol-e-Charkhi Jail and this shows that this time the president dare to come out of the presidential palace.
The president met with the prisoners and inquired about their issues and this was an unprecedented move. During the jail tour, the president pledged that justice would prevail and promised the prisoners that their cases would be reassessed. During the visit, the prisoners demanded establishment of a health clinic and literacy center. During the second week in office as president, the newly elected leader held several meetings with various political forces, parties and people from different walks of life including university lecturers and military commanders through video conferences in which he closely evaluated and studied the overall security environment of the country. The president also visited Kabul military hospital where he met with the wounded soldiers and tribute their sacrifices for the protection of the motherland.
In security perspective, the delay of signing the Bilateral Security Agreement (BSA) by former president Hamid Karzai had not logic, because it was the need of Afghan society to sign the security agreement with the US. Therefore, president Ahmadzai took a major initiative by signing the BSA and it was a step forward toward Afghanistan’s stability and security and economic perspectives. Meanwhile, economic analysts have stressed that the presidential decision on the Kabul Bank corruption case was also a major step toward combating corruption. Analysts say that if the president came out of the Kabul Bank embezzlement case successfully, then the land grabbing will also be controlled in the country and effective will also be taken on the mine sector of the country. Implementation of reforms in the attorney, war on corruption was among the top decisions the president made over the past two weeks in office.
One of the other important issues is the freedom of speech; the president wants a close harmony and cooperation between media and the government. The president already promised to support the freedom of press and investigative journalism. It is quite important to mention that the president fulfilled three of his promises which he had made to the nation during the presidential election campaigns. The people hope that the president will honor 98 pc of his commitments in the first 100 days. The oppressed people of Afghanistan expect that fundamental reforms are implemented in all sectors in the national and international levels in order to seek settlement to issues faced by the country. People expect that the individuals aren’t assigned to job on the basis of their ethnic background or political ties. Those people should be assigned on job who isn’t involved in embezzlements, corruption, land grabbing and other criminal cases.
