UK Reaffirms Continued Cooperation With Afghanistan

Kabul (BNA) Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan met UK’s State Minister for International Development, Rory Stewart here yesterday, a presidential statement said. Besides conveying good wishes of the UK’s officials, the Minister for International Development briefed President Ghani on Britain’s major development projects in Afghanistan, the statement added. According to the statement, both sides also discussed regional cooperation and development projects, preparation for Brussels Conference, upcoming parliamentary elections and the Afghan refugees’ problems. Assuring UK’s continued cooperation with Afghanistan, Minister Stewart said that Afghanistan has gained eye-catching achievements in reformations, women’s rights and development projects. The UK minister went on saying that his country is ready to support Afghanistan in Brussels conference, adding that it would encourage other countries to also support Afghanistan in the aforesaid summit, the statement added.
Praising UK’s assistance to Afghanistan, the president thanked minister for his support of Afghanistan in upcoming Brussels conference, the statement concluded. According to another report, Eklil Hakimi Minister of Finance also met Rory Stewart British Minister of State for International Development and Dominic Jeremy, British ambassador to Kabul here in his office yesterday, a statement said. According to the statement, a wide range of issues were discussed in the meeting which included MoF’s priority, national revenue, anti-corruption, and preparation for upcoming Brussels conference. Minister Hakimi went on saying that the key priority is revenue and re-engaging in the region and regional connectivity, specially, in the area of transportation and energy. “We are going to inaugurate Herat-Khavaf Railway this September. Also, Turkmenistan is determined to transfer 400kv electricity along the TAPI pipeline to Pakistan through Afghanistan,” the minister quoted in the statement. British delegation reaffirmed its commitment for partnership and continuing long-term British support with Afghanistan, the statement concluded.
