Electoral Reforms A National Need: Danesh

Saturday May 23, 2015
Kabul (BNA) The second vice president Sarwar Danesh has termed bringing reforms in the election systems a national necessity and said the government is determined to bring reform in electoral system.
He made the remarks in meeting with political deputy to UNAMA who called on vice president in his office the other day.
Thanking UNAMA for its support to Afghanistan, the vice president noted that bringing reforms in the electoral system is necessary for transparency of the elections in future and stability in the country, hoping the concerned commission would soon begin its work in this regard. He also noted it would be proved more effective if the assistance of international community for election bodies be spent through government channels.
Meantime, the UNAMA official said that in meeting with officials from the electoral commissions, civil society bodies and financiers of the election process days ago it was clearly stated that suspension of world body’s financial assistance to the election commissions does not mean the cut off of international community’s cooperation with Afghanistan.
According to another report, a delegation of elders and Jihadi commanders of Ghazni province called on the second vice president the other day and apprized him about the problems of the province.
