Minister Atmar Meets UAE’s State Minister for International Cooperation

Kabul (BNA) Foreign Minister Mohammad Haneef Atmar met with UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation, Reem Ebrahim Al Hashimy on the sidelines of the OIC Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Niamey, the capital city of Niger.

At the outset, the Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the assistance and cooperation of the United Arab Emirates, especially its support for the peace and reconstruction processes in Afghanistan over the past 19 years.

Subsequently, the Minister of State for International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates, Madam Al Hashimy, congratulated Mr. Atmar on the success of the Geneva Conference and expressed hope that Afghanistan would be able to achieve progress, excellence and lasting peace.

The two sides discussed the latest developments in the Afghan peace talks, the reduction of violence and its monitoring mechanism and the need for an early ceasefire between the Afghan government and the Taliban. They also talked strengthening of regional and global consensus on peace process in Afghanistan.

The two sides also talked about the development of relations on economic, political, trade and investment between Afghanistan and the United Arab Emirates.

At the end of the meeting, Ms. Al Hashimy called the relations between the two countries as friendly and assured Mr. Atmar of her country’s continued support and assistance to Afghanistan.
