Minister Haqqani Asks UN to Assist Afghanistan’s Education Sector

KABUL (BNA) Acting Higher Education Minister Mawlawi Abdul Baqi Haqqani during a meeting with UN Special Rapporteur for Afghanistan sought the organization’s support for Afghanistan’s education sector.

It is the first time the UN Special Rapporteur for Afghanistan, Richard Bennett visits the war-torn country. According to the UN, the aim of Bennett’s visit to Afghanistan is to assess the general human rights situation in this country.

A statement from the Ministry of Higher Education obtained by BNA stated that Mr. Haqqani discussed Afghanistan’s current education system with the UN Special Rapporteur for Afghanistan, Richard Bennett in the capital Kabul on Tuesday.

Minister Haqqani asked the UN to play its role in cooperating with the Afghan education sector.

UN Special Rapporteur in Afghanistan later detailed that he would submit his report to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights for taking needed steps in this regard.

According to reports, UN Special Rapporteur in Afghanistan is expected to also travel to a number of other provinces of the country.
