Current Environment For Women Not Satisfactory, Dr. Abdullah

Kabul (BNA) The High Commission on prevention of violence against women with Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah on the chair held session here yesterday.
At the outset Dr. Abdullah praised efforts of women and civil society activists as well as religious scholars for prevention of violence against women, adding there were still major challenges before women in the country.
Dr. Abdullah went on saying that current situation for women was not satisfactory, asking to do more and bring about better environment for women in the country.
The Chief Executive called insecurity, powerful individual’s interference in judicial and justice organs andofficials’ negligence as the main reasons behind increasing violence against women. However he said government has taken practical steps to overcome the said problems.
Meanwhile Minister of Women Affairs DelbarNazari and other participants presented their reports on recent provincial trips, saying a number of the cases of violence against women were addressed.
Minster of Women Affairs also shared her ministry’s concern over the call center project, saying SAARC has agreed to deliver the call center to the ministry, but the Active NGO was not ready to submit it.
The Chief Executive instructed the Ministry of Economy to follow the issue in line with agreement already signed. Dr. Abdullah also instructed the Local Organ Directorate to contact governors and advise them to hold meetings on prevention of violence against women and invite particular agencies.
