International Day Against HIV-AIDS

Kabul (BNA) The December 1st coincides International Day against HIV aids.
The day is marked in the world to provide awareness among the general public regarding the fatal disease. Scientific research has proved that the disease is spread through blood transaction and exchange. On occasion of the International Da against HIV Aids, the Minister of Public Health Dr. Suraya Dalil has announced that the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) is working on a strategic plan to provide awareness among the Afghan people regarding dangers of the fatal disease and enhance their knowledge for taking preemptive measures for prevention of the virus.
The Minister has asked the countrymen to purse an HIV aids test for safety of their lives and to avoid the disease. She emphasized will help Afghanistan to get closer to the UN target which has been set to decrease the fatal virus among the people by the end of 2015, saying that the Health Ministry has started publication of a brochure to further enhance awareness among the people regarding Aids. Nevertheless, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has said that HIV diagnostic and health services have been established in at least nine provinces and the resident in these provinces are able to consult these centers for HIV tests. The officials have said that another five Aids prevention centers have been established in the provinces of Kabul, Kandahar, Herat and Nangarhar.
Medical experts believe that the HIV aids are transferred from one person to another through syringes and disposal syringes should be used to avoid expansion and spread of the disease.
In the meantime, chairman of parliamentary commission for health and young has said that large scale addictions among the youth of the country have further developed the disease. He said that consequence of HIV Aids is very horrible in the Afghan society and comprehensive efforts are needed to prevent the issue.
“The only solution to the issue is to ensure treatment of the addicts and expand number of addicts’ treatment centers in the country, said chairman of parliamentary commission for health and young affairs.”
“The number of addicts who use syringes are around 23,000 and fear exists that it will take more victims in the future if the trend is not prevented, said Ibrahim Azhar, Deputy Minister of Counter Narcotics.”
This is majority of the Aids victims are the youth and addiction and utilization of used syringes and blades have been the main factors behind the issue.
