Kabul (BNA) Members of provincial councils have significant role in the process of local governance, this was stated by President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani in meeting with provincial governors, administrative officials of provincial councils and provincial police chiefs during a video conference here yesterday.
Calling for ensuring coordination among government entities and strengthening government presence in insecure districts, the president also thanked the provincial officials on preparing the lists of land grabbers and supporting security forces by people. The President assured the members of provincial councils that these councils as representatives of people can have effective role in ensuring good governance at provincial level. However, he warned that no member of provincial council has the right to individually influence or interfere in the affairs of provincial departments. The directorate for local organs has the responsibility to finalize the financial freedom of provincial councils in accordance with the policy of local governance, president Ghani said, adding the offices’ buildings for 15 provincial councils have been completed and work for the construction of six more office buildings is continuing. In the 1395 fiscal year, budget will be allocated to have vehicles for provincial councils, the president said at the conference.
