Mine Clearance Government’s Priority, Dr. Abdullah

Kabul (BNA) Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, in a gathering of the International Mine Awareness Day, said that the people of Afghanistan stand alongside the security forces, his office said in a statement.
He said the government prioritize mine clearance and hoped Afghanistan to be fully cleared of mines by 2023, according to the statement.
The CE called the demining personnel heroes and thanked the international partners for their effort in mine wide clearance process.
The CE also, expressed deep sadness over the latest security forces bombing, in Kunduz province, where a number of children were also killed or injured.
He said the people and the government stand alongside the security forces and added that mine clearance had big role in safe returning of Afghan refugees and launching the infrastructural projects.
Up to 77 percent of Afghanistan is said to have been cleared from mines and the menace would be ended by the next five years.
