Kabul (BNA) The Independent Election Commission (IEC) yesterday announced the schedule for parliamentary and district councils’ elections.
IEC chairman Dr. Yusuf Nuristani during a press conference said that the commission has taken all technical preparations to conduct the election in upcoming fall (Mizan 24 which coincides with 15 October, 2016), BNA reported.
Nuristani urged government to provide the necessary budget and said that IEC would not allow anyone to interfere in the process of elections.
“Considering the election law, the date of the polls should be announced before 180 days. The IEC members working in the framework of the law and we announce 15 October as the date for parliamentary and district council elections”, Nuristani added, saying that on the basis of law, government cannot sack anyone and would continue the duty for six years.
Nuristani also asked the government to help in security of the voting centers as well as the international community to continue technical cooperation with the Independent Election Commission.
