Pakistan Building Border Barriers To Prevent Terrorists’ Influence

Monday March 27, 2017

Kabul (BNA) Pakistan Chief of Army Staff has said that in order to prevent crossing of terrorists along the two countries joint borders, there was a need to build barriers across the two countries a plan, the top Pak official made after 16 years of border closure.
Gen. Qamar Jawid Bhjwa said the aim of building barrier was to prevent influence of armed men threatening the tribal regions’ security. This is while three tracks apparently laden with fruits and vegetables have been checked inside the border with Afghanistan full of explosive devices and if Pakistan want to really fight terrorism, it should first shut training centers and safe havens of terrorists inside its soil and then step up to elimination of terrorists enlisted by Afghanistan. Bhajwa said building barriers have been started from Mehmand and Bajawor areas, where he believed facing more threats. But Afghans believed Pakistan was sending explosives through the areas under full control from both sides’ security forces, with different trickeries, not via illegal areas under full view from US drone.
Pakistan instead should prevent shelling rockets from its side and destroy those up to 2,000 madrassas training terrorists, under the pretext of religious teachings. Now not only the Afghans, but the international community has realized that terrorists are being trained in Pakistan and sent to other countries for destructive purposes and the Pakistan recent measure to build barriers wouldn’t change public minds. There is no need of building blocks along the ways of those who can easily be escorted via other ways, but there is a need for a real fight against terror and elimination of their hideouts and training centers in the neighboring Pakistan. Existence of some 2 thousand madrassas in Pakistan are not teaching real Islamic lessons, but that how to create fear and dread and spread out threat in the region.
As seen Pakistan is seeking ways to reduce international doubts and distrust and acquit itself from remaining a lasting regional doubtful so it resorts to creation of dams and barriers along the borders. Pakistan is a real supporter of the regional terrorism and as long as it provides safe asylum to terrorists and extremists, the region, particularly Afghanistan will not remain secure and safe. Recently the crossing points between the two countries were opened to all communications including traders’ merchandises, through which thousands of Afghan-Pak commodities exchanged, mainly via the two key Turkham and Spin Buldak points. Pakistan 2,600km shared border with Afghanistan and the neighboring country, yet to do more in elimination of terrorists networks or at least avoid providing them with safe asylum in its soil.
