Public Support Essential To Keep Clean Kabul City, Official

Sunday May 1, 2016
Kabul (BNA) We should be involved in cleaning of our city and prevent throwing of garbage in our vicinity so to have a sound environment.
As it is seen, a number of citizens throw garbage on the sidewalks or gutters and road sides during heavy rain shower and create serious problems to people vehicles and passersby. Chairman of cleaning department, Kabul Municipality Nesar Ahmad Habibi an interviewed said, a good citizen is a person who sincerely loves his/her city, impressed and disturbed with urban irregularities specially pollution and feel responsibility than them. A good citizen is a person who has high feeling and emotion in the direction of ensuring individual and social cleanness of environment and upon seeing every negative phenomenon in his/her environment, his/her conscience jerks. There are many other aspects that distinguish good citizen from bad. He added, “As the chairman of cleansing department, I have many complaints from those Kabul citizens who pay less attention in city cleansing programs and other civic and social programs and have not carried out their responsibility properly. If today we witness profound changes in other big and small cities of the world civilized and developed countries in the direction of improving of their environment and its cleanness, all of them have been achieved as a result of their citizens’ vast partnership and responsibility and their perspiration.
I hope current shortages in our environment be removed with indefatigable efforts of media, religious scholars, tribal elders youth, teachers of educational institutes, Mullah Imams, preachers because their role is outstanding in the direction of enriching of social culture more than others. All of us should join hands regardless of our social position and official occupation make joint efforts according to our available resources for promotion and improving of public awareness on urban culture. Question: In recent years, large number of people rushed into Kabul due to different reasons including wars, conflicts, insecurities from different parts of Afghanistan with various cultures and traditions. What can the MoE do to train them urban culture? Answer: I believe that if the teachers of primary classes talk for at least five minutes once a week to their students on cleanness and environment protection and other social, cultural issues, no doubt at the end of high schools, these students will be changed to sound individuals and would invite others to performance of urban culture. I remember that in our previous curriculum one hour was allocated once a week to cleanness, and our sympathetic teachers had inspected situation of their students specially in primary classes and asked them to pay serious attention to their cleanness and talked to them about rights of parents, washing of their hands after easing nature etc. I expect the MoE to refocus attention sincerely in the direction of rehabilitation of urban culture through educational institutes and also would like to request all parents to remind their children these issues continuously. Question: Before the garbage was regularly relocated outside the city but since a while this process has been disturbed, what is your comment?
Answer: Our efforts for management of garbage is going on, without any exception or difference like before but large number of our garbage trucks have been expired and broken due to frequency of usage of more than forty years. We use them today but they are broken due to technical reasons at least once a week and we have to repair them that require huge expenses. Available vehicles are not sufficient and accountable to our needs. I have a glad tiding to you that recently the Kabul Municipality authorities have assured us to provide a number of new zero mileage garbage trucks to our department. Question: Recently due to heavy rain showers, large quantity of rain water accumulated in some areas specially gutters and circles and caused serious problem to people and vehicles, what is your measures to remove this problem? Answer: Lack of canalization and sewage system in capital Kabul and standard gutters for removing of over ground waters is the main reason behind this situation: the Kabul municipality authorities are determined to tackle this problem in close coordination with relevant authorities of Afghanistan water supply department and seek a basic solution to this challenging crisis.
