PC’s Chairmen Call On First VP

Kabul (BNA) First Vice President, Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum met Thursday evening with chairmen of the country’s provincial councils.
Based on instruction of President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and following of previous session, a meeting was held between first vice president and chairmen of provincial councils related to having right of supervision by provincial council’s representatives.
In the session, they discussed on finding way of solution in particular right of supervision by representatives of the country’s provincial council. Meanwhile, a number of the council’s representatives representing the others spoke related to having the oversight right, stressing that the government should take urgent adoption in this regard and respond to the representatives.
They asked for issuing a legislative decree by President Ghani in connection with having oversight right to representatives of provincial councils in 24 provinces of the country.
Considering role of provincial councils as key in good governance, Gen. Dostum said the government was working to find a solution in connection with having oversight right to provincial councils’ representatives, adding that the national unity government would soon address the issue according to the country’s constitution.
The first vice president asked the participants in the session to invite the people to unity and struggle against any kinds of the enemies’ plots and will never open any ways for tension. Gen. Dostum promised to reach a positive conclusion in consultation with the president.
Lower House of parliament on its last working day left out oversight role of provincial councils and approved the councils’ law.  Based on the law, provincial councils will have only consultative role to local officials.  According to another report, the first vice president met with acting governor of Baghlan, senators, provincial council’s chief and a number of elders and dignitaries of the province.
