Dr. Abdullah Meets Saudi Arabia Finance, Education Ministers

Kabul/RIYADH (BNA) Afghanistan Chief Executive, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah in his meeting with the Saudi Arabia minister of finance discussed some issues related to trade, transit, investment and banking, said his office the other day.
According to the statement, the CE said Saudi Arabia traders can invest either jointly with the Afghan traders or independently in Afghanistan.
He said Afghanistan, considering wide agricultural lands, and mine sources is a proper investment hub for the traders and the government had done much to work for development of the private sector, the statement quoted. He asked the Saudi Arabia for the tariff exemption of the Afghan goods transiting to the Gulf countries, and that for providing more facilities for the two countries traders, there is a need for building trade relations between both sides banking systems, the statement quoted.
The Saudi Arabia Finance Minister, Dr. Ibrahim al-Assaf expressed his country’s full cooperation in the field of trade, transit and banking with Afghanistan, but said the issue of the tariff exemption would be discussed with the Gulf Nations Cooperation Council, said the statement.
Both Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia are the members of the Islamic Development Bank and the Saudi Kingdom pledged to provide financial and economic cooperation for Afghanistan through the Bank.
According to another report, CE, Dr. Abdullah also met with the Saudi Arabia education minister, Dr. Ahmad Isa who said his country would issue 400 scholarships to the Afghan students of higher education, annually.
He said his country would arrange a link between the two countries universities and provide an exchange program for both sides’ students and teachers.
