Kabul (BNA) Reassuring President Hamid Karzai of their cooperation in the joint fight against terrorism, Asif Ali Zardari President of Pakistan and Imran Khan Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Party have sent separate letters in response to the President’s call on the political and religious landscape of Pakistan for Joint counter-terrorism efforts.
It is to note that President Karzai had sent letters on 13 October to the political and religious leaders of Pakistan, condemning the terrorist attack on Malala Yousafzai, and stating that Pakistan also faces a serious threat posed by extremism and terrorism.
In the letters, the President had invited Pakistani leaders to help both countries take a coordinated, collaborative and serious action, with strong determination, against terrorism and extremism.
In response to the President, Asif Ali Zardari noted in his letter, “We condemn terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, irrespective of wherever it is committed. We hope and expect that elements who commit such heinous crimes would not be allowed to find refuge on either side of our border.”
President Zardari added, “The menace of terrorism and extremism has to be faced head on, and Malala has spilled her blood to show us how. Let us honor her sacrifice, by committing ourselves to concrete action to eradicate this menace of terrorism and extremism from our countries forever.”
In a letter addressed to the President, Imran Khan Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Party stated, “I agree with you that we all have the responsibility to play a role in ending the violence. I also agree that the people of Pakistan and Afghanistan who have common bonds of faith and history must cooperate to take our countries out of poverty, deprivation and ignorance.”
Imran Khan added, “May I take this opportunity to say that my party and I support Afghan efforts at peace and reconciliation to ensure that all Afghans have a political stake in you country’s future.”
