Agreements on Rebuilding of 30 Irrigation Systems Signed

Kabul (BNA) While according to economists, Afghanistan agriculture has been facing diverse challenges and the NUG should make strong investment in this sector, the MoAIL signed reconstruction agreements for 30 irrigation networks in 5 provinces recently.
Professor Moahhed a lecturer at the Faculty of Economics, Kabul University said, generally talking and agriculture sector is very important for our people and the government and particularly responsible bodies should focus more attention on this sector. Construction of irrigation networks are basic element of agriculture development. Therefore construction and rebuilding of dams, submergible, irrigation canals, streams and deep wells should be at the top of the NUG priorities. Despite of all problems, signing of these agreements could be a glad tiding for residents of these five provinces.
According to the responsible authorities of the MoAIL, this ministry would be making efforts for modernization of irrigation networks beside implementation of big and small projects in different parts of the country.
Talking to the signing ceremony of the agreements, MoAIL Assadulah Zamir said, according to present agreements, six irrigation networks in Balkh, five networks in Jawzjan, two networks in Samangan, two in Parwan and 15 irrigation networks will be rebuilt in Herat province with an expenditure and investment of Afs 260m from the development budget of this ministry. He added, with the completion of these projects, 61000 Jerib fields will be covered and about 25000 people will be directly benefitted and job opportunities will be available for over 2500 local population. According to a press release of that ministry available to media, the last experience have shown that with rebuilding of such networks, 80 pc water wasting will be prevented and it is estimated that agricultural products will be increased by 20pc. It has been said that in 1395 solar year, the MoIAL has undertaken 200 rebuilding projects of irrigation projects in 34 provinces. 31 projects have been completed, 118 projects are under construction and the work on 50 will be started in coming days.
