Kabul (BNA) Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, leader of one of branches of Hezb-e-Isalmic of Afghanistan in a surprise step has asked his partisans to participate in upcoming Presidential and Provincial Council elections.
Media has reported that Hekmatyar in a message had asked his partisans in 34 provinces to support the party’s nominees in competition with other nominees in the elections.
Although it was not clear from where Hekmatyar has sent the message, but it could be considered as an unprecedented move because Hekmatyar had not only been active against the present regime and rejected the government’s peace program during the past years.
Hekmatyar’s recent move could be a political rotation and considered as good news for restoration of stability in the country and the message would be undoubtedly welcomed by government officials.
